On Wednesday, it felt like it should be Friday, but now that the week is nearly over, I'm wondering how it went so fast! Lots of talk about names this week. Some of you adopted Spanish names. We're telling names and asking them.
me llamo - I call myself (my name is)
se llama - s/he calls her/himself (her/his name is)
te llamas - you call yourself (your name is) informal
¿Cómo te llamas? What's your name? (literally, How do you call yourself?)
(Must let Weebly know that their upside down question mark is backwards!)
To our previously learned "actionable" words, we've added:
busca - s/he looks for, searches for
come - s/he eats
On Monday, we learned our first animal:
el gato - the cat ¡Chris tiene (has) diez gatos! El gato de Audrey se llama Buffy.
And we learned two expressions for goodbye:
¡Adiós! and ¡Chao!, the latter of which was adapted from the Italian, Ciao.
Today we took on 20 classroom-related vocabulary items. When I figure out how to attach a document, I'll add the list to this post. Students were given paper with a grid, on which they are creating a visual dictionary for these twenty items. Tomorrow, Friday, we'll dedicate 10 more minutes to completing the dictionary. If you think you need more than that, work on it tonight. To earn the full 10 pts., you must use colors and work neatly. Think about the word you're illustrating, and you'll reap the benefits of the hand-to-brain connection.
A new student joined us this week. ¡Bienvenido, Marco DiMare!
